I hope this page will answers any questions you have regarding online training. If you have questions not answered on this page, please feel free to contact me directly.
What are online courses like?
Modular Mind online courses are conducted using well-known web conferencing solutions. Currently I’m using GoToMeeting, but that may change in the future.
Modular Mind online courses are very interactive and students are encouraged to ask questions whenever they like. Questions can be asked verbally or through a chat window. The chat window is nice because you’re free to ask questions publicly or privately, if you like.
Will I get individual attention during an online course?
Yes! You will definitely get individual attention, both during the lectures and labs. I keep the size of my online courses fairly small (usually no larger than 10 students) to guarantee that students are satisfied.
Also, I’m available online both before and after the official course times to answer questions, help on unfinished labs or address any other concerns that you might have.
During labs, students are able and encouraged to share their screen so that I can answer questions or resolve issues.
What steps do you take to prevent technical issues?
Web conferencing is a fairly mature technology and technical issues are rare. But to ensure that things run smoothly, I host a test meeting the day before the class start date. If you like, you can connect to the meeting and verify that everything is working properly.
If the timing of the test meeting is not convenient for you, I am willing to host a private test meeting at your convenience.
How are course materials delivered?
A few days prior to the course an encrypted archive will be made available for download. This archive will contain a PDF version of the course manual along with all files needed to complete the lab work.
Can I attend a course from outside the US?
Yes, you can attend the course from anywhere that is supported by the web conferencing solution. GoToMeeting supports voice connections through direct dial-in or VOIP, so there is a way to connect from just about anywhere.
Do you offer private online courses?
Yes! Private online courses are available for as few as 3 students. A private course allows you to pick dates and times convenient for you, as well as customize the course content at no additional charge.
What are the system requirements for attending a course?
This are the latest requirements as listed on GoToMeeting website. For Windows:
- Internet Explorer® 6.0 or newer, Mozilla® Firefox® 2.0 or newer (JavaScript™ and Java™ enabled)
- Windows® 2000, XP, 2003 Server or Vista
- Cable modem, DSL, or better Internet connection
- Minimum of Pentium® class 1GHz CPU with 512 MB of RAM (recommended) (2 GB of RAM for Windows® Vista)

Can an online course be cancelled by Modular Mind?
A class may be cancelled if fewer than 3 students sign up. In this case, students will be notified 5 days before the class start date, and a full refund will be provided.
Can I cancel or reschedule an online course?
You are free to cancel or reschedule an online course up to 10 days before the class start date.
Can a substitute student attend an online course?
Yes. This is not a problem.

Dear Mr Paulin
i live in Germany. For the last three weeks i have been trying to iron out how to manage a headless build using PDE in Eclipse with Hudson as the build manager. Eclipse is still so new to me that i get lost quite easily unless i have an example i can refer to. In landing on your website i believe your on-line training course can help me learn how to do this.
Please let me know the credentials i may need and how i can go about enrolling in your on-line course.
Thank you,
Alberto Perri
Hi Alberto,
You can find out more about my online courses by visiting:

The next course is scheduled for Jan 13-15 and there is still availability. The only credential you would need is a knowledge of Java. Nothing else is assumed.
I’d also be happy to help you with PDE Build whenever you like. Feel free to email me – patrick at modumind dot com.
Regards,
— Patrick
Is the July 14-16 course still available?
